Patti Smith to Release 11th Album Banga

One of alternative music's most legendary figures, Patti Smith, will soon release her 11th solo record. Entitled Banga, the latest Smith record —and first since 2004's Trampin'; and the first since her 2010 memoir Just Kids turned Smith into a bona fide literary sensation— is due out June 5 on Columbia.

The album was recorded in Electric Lady Studios and features songs written about everyone from austere Russian auteur Andrei Tarkovsky, to Smith's pal Johnny Depp, to fallen soul-belter/drug-enthusiast Amy Winehouse. The first single from the LP, "April Fool," features Smith collaborating with Television legend Tom Verlaine.
