The Polaris Music Prize has unveiled its 'Short List'; the ten final nominees in the running for the Best Canadian Album of the year gong. And, of course, the $30,000 that comes with.
Last Year's Polaris was one by Grammy kingpins Arcade Fire. Here's this year's field:
- Cadence Weapon, Hope in Dirt City
- Cold Specks, I Predict a Graceful Expulsion
- Drake, Take Care
- Feist, Metals
- Fucked Up's David Comes to Life
- Grimes' Visions
- Handsome Furs, Sound Kapital
- Japandroids' Celebration Rock
- Kathleen Edwards, Voyageur
- Yamantaka//Sonic Titan, YT//ST
Given only one of the nominated records sits atop my
Best Albums of 2012 list, it's pretty plain where my allegiances lay. The actual winner shall be revealed at the Polaris gala on September 24. Look for a full breakdown of the field, here, next week...
