Free Music Monday Jonquil Mexico

"Mexico" is quite the exotic title for a band from Oxford. Yet, Jonquil's music is growing surely more 'international' in bent with each passing record; their fifth disc (although only second 'proper' album) Point of Go taking influence from all manner of straight-up pop music.

Of course, "Mexico" doesn't boast Mariachi brass, just loads of synths and glinting, Vampire Weekend-y guitars, with Hugo 'Chad Valley' Manuel caroling over all the backing sunshine. "I never knew you wanted to go," Manuel falsettoes, "I said this wasn't what I wanted, no"; the pained words marked in salty, striking contrast with the super-joyous-sounding jam.

PS: Point of Go is out February 21, and I'm calling Jonquil an International Pick at SXSW 2012, too...
