Free Music Monday Flown Almost Human

There's been little typed about Flown thus far —especially for a band from Brooklyn— which means, thus far, their jams have got to speak for themselves. There's only two of them, but, considering two of my favorite acts of 2011, Purity Ring and Mozart's Sister, both have careers totally all of three files apiece, two straight-to-Bandcamp cuts feel like more than enough for critical appraisal.

Flown take wing with the ruffled, raggedy airs of a garage band, but what sets them apart from the jangling ranks is their fondness for riffs; Margot Bianca unafraid of sludging it up with some lo-fi, indiefied interpretation of classic doom-metal chug.

There's riffing at work on "Almost Human," Flown's newly released jam. But its one component in a swirling mix of sweetness and lights, darkness and vice; echo-draped harmonies and eerie ambience wafting amidst fuzzy guitar/bass riffery that feels more unmoored than earthbound.

Flown, "Almost Human"
