Free Music Monday Micachu and the Shapes OK

The sing-song lyrics of "OK" are both rudimentary and repetitive. "Are you sure you're OK?" Raisa Khan calls, and 'though Mica Levy's response is always "couldn't be better," it's taken with a grain of salt, as an obvious platitude. "If you're not, that's OK," Khan hedges, drawing at the darkness bubbling away in the jam's uneasy fuzz.

As these the sentiments bounce back-and-forth, ricocheting between the three members, the half-word of its title is rendered both utterly profound and completely meaningless; both the heart of human compassion and the banality of daily discourse.

The first taste of the second Micachu LP, Never, furthers the idiosyncratic sound premiered on 2009's Jewellery. There's distortion and discordance aplenty, uneasy polyrhythms, and a compositional clattering clutter; "OK" lurching, spasmodically, through its three-and-a-half minutes. "Don't tell me how to have fun!" Levy snarls, and "OK" keeps that sentiment: this isn't fun for anyone, least of all listeners, making it a curious choice for first-up single.
